A new thematic direction, the call for our sixth batch, and an open house; read on below to find out more about the exciting happenings coming up with updates on our startup teams.

We are excited to announce that Urban Tech Helsinki’s next call for startups will be launched in May! If you are a tech entrepreneur looking to take your early-stage urban tech startup to the next level, this is your opportunity to apply for our incubator program. As a renewed thematic area, we are happy to introduce urban greening.

Urban greening startups use solutions like green roofs and urban farming to add green spaces and vegetation to cities, helping to increase and maintain nature’s well-being with technologies such as soil monitoring. They address many of the challenges that cities face, such as air pollution, urban heat island effects, and biodiversity loss, as well as increasing the sense of community and welfare of citizens. We are looking forward to seeing new ideas on this theme, but of course warmly welcome applications from all areas of urban tech. 

Urban greening includes urban farming where we have had the privilege to follow the journey of some great companies. Arctic Farming is now continuing their story with the European Space Agency Business Incubation Center, ESA BIC Finland. Blokgarden is currently taking part in our Urban Tech Challenge 2024 with an exciting new idea, and VacuumWood.Tech ‘s revolutionary technology was featured in Tekniikka&Talous recently. A forerunner of the theme, urban placemaker company Parkly just launched their new catalogue of modular green wall and parklet modules.
