Moom Studio: Anyone can be a designer – New AI-powered toolkit makes designing easier, smarter and more sustainable for all

Have you ever renovated or redecorated your home? Then you might know how difficult it can be finding furniture that fits an oddly shaped living room, or how much imagination is required figuring out what color to paint your walls when you only have a few tiny swatches to base your decisions on. Moom Studio believes good design should be accessible to everyone – not a luxury reserved for a few. Their vision is to redefine the way spaces are designed, keeping creativity at the center, and ensuring sustainability and functionality go hand in hand. By challenging conventional design processes with an AI-powered toolkit anyone can use, the company aims to democratise quality design, making it intuitive, cost-effective, and adaptable for all.

Sisters united for more accessible design

After years of working in architecture and interior design, Moom Studio’s CEO Maitai
Kunawong
noticed that the planning stages of design involve many labor-intensive,
repetitive tasks. The iterative process is often costly, and design services primarily
serve high-end clients. With the rise of modern technologies such as AI, Kunawong
began questioning whether some tasks could be streamlined to make design more
accessible to a wider audience. She joined forces with her sister, Praejeen Kunawong,
a visual and textile designer, to pursue their shared passion for design and creativity.

The sisters strongly felt that as technology advances, it should be leveraged in making
industries like construction more accessible and sustainable. This philosophy led to
the founding of Moom Studio, a Bangkok-based architecture and design company that
provides users with an AI-powered toolkit that integrates creativity with real-time
budgeting and sustainability insights. By addressing the common problem of delayed
decision-making and the disconnect between design iterations and the continuous
project adjustments, Moom Studio ensures that design remains adaptable and
responsive to rapid changes – something traditional methods often struggle to achieve. Today, the team also includes two developers who bring valuable technical experience to the table. By combining diverse skills, Moom Studio challenges traditional design workflows.

AI-powered design with real-time budgeting and sustainability insights

The built environment is responsible for approximately 42% of global CO2 emissions
each year, and the global building floor area is expected to double by 2060. Around 36% of these emissions stem from embodied carbon – the result of material choices made during construction and renovation. So, design and material usage clearly play a crucial role in shaping a more sustainable future.

Moom Studio’s goal is to make sustainability a core part of the design process, enabling designers to make better, more impactful decisions without the usual cost and time constraints. How? By introducing an AI design visualisation toolkit that can be used by anyone from architects designing new buildings to homeowners making bathroom renovations. The user needs to just upload a photo of the space, and the AI image generation allows them to try different ideas and styles easily, and fine-tune specific areas of their design in just seconds. The AI tool can also be used for design and furniture suggestions, and to convert flat floor plans into 3D models to better visualise spaces and see how furniture fits.

In addition to design recommendations, users receive automated layout recommendations and real-time cost estimates. Unlike many similar tools on the
market, Moom Studio provides real-time sustainability insights and feedback on your
current design’s environmental impact – an often-overlooked aspect of the design
process. Typically, sustainability metrics require specialised knowledge, significant
time, and effort. As a result, they often fall behind as designs evolve, leading to hasty
decisions without a proper understanding of long-term impacts. Moom Studio believes
that integrating sustainability data at every stage of the process is essential for making
informed, responsible choices, and understanding how design can affect our planet.

Building the future: Strong partnerships and a supportive community

Right now, Helsinki serves as the ideal launchpad for the company, given its global
leadership in sustainable innovation and its openness to adopting new solutions.
Looking ahead, Moom Studio aims to scale its tool into a global platform that redefines
interior design. Their goals include expanding their user base, forging strong
partnerships, and advocating for sustainable design.

To reach these objectives, Moom Studio is eager to collaborate with like-minded
designers, construction companies, material suppliers, and furniture vendors who
share their vision for intelligent fit-out solutions. Beyond partnerships, they also aspire
to build a thriving online community for design enthusiasts through social media.

“Whether you’re a potential partner or simply passionate about the future of design, we
invite you to stay tuned and be part of the movement!”, Praejeen proclaims cheerfully.

With innovation, collaboration, and commitment to sustainability, Moom Studio is set
to transform the design landscape – one smarter, greener space at a time.
